LENPIC is a new project that aims to develop chiral effective field theory nucleon-nucleon and three-nucleon interactions complete through fourth order in the chiral expansion (N3LO). Using these new interactions, LENPIC aims to solve the structure and reactions of light nuclei including electroweak observables with consistent treatment of the corresponding exchange currents.

We plan to reach the following milestones within the next three years (listed chronologically):

  • Perform partial wave decomposition of the chiral N3LO three-nucleon force.
  • Carry out calculations of few-body systems and nuclei with up to 6, 7 nucleons employing the resulting nuclear Hamiltonian.
  • Extend the interactions to higher partial waves to increase the range of energies for scattering applications.
  • Perform the calculations of the few-body, A = 8, 9 systems and infinite nuclear matter with these interactions.
  • Investigate alternative versions of the chiral effective field theory interactions. For the first time, carry out calculations with chiral forces based on the effective field theory with explicit delta excitations of the nucleon.
  • Perform calculations of few-body, A = 6,7 systems and infinite nuclear matter to high precision with the alternative versions of the chiral effective field theory interactions and compare with previous results.
